Help Needed.

Hopefully everyone is having an enjoyable Holiday!  It is time to begin looking forward to 2012 (can you believe it?) and checking our calendar for availability to volunteer at the Tacoma Dome on the weekend of January 13th at 8pm, 14th at 2pm and 8pm and 15th at 1pm.  These are the dates for the Monster Truck and we are in need of YOU!  The OPABC needs to provide a minimum of 6 volunteers per show.  All YOU need is your current food handlers permit, a valid alcohol license and a willing spirit.. and maybe some comfortable shoes. :)  
There have been a few step forward, if this is you, mark your calendar. January 13th:  Kevin H, Melanie E (possibly), Michael M, and Tanya N.  We still need 2 -3 more helpers for the 13th.  January 14th:  Kevin H (both shows?), Trina H and Melanie E. We could use 2-3 more for both shows on the 14th.  January 15th: Michael M.  We need 5 more volunteers for this show!

Please email me as soon as possible if you are available so that we can be certain who will be helping us.  Thanks for all your support.

Upcoming Fund raisers:

* Basketball games. Motion made to not sell at games/ 2nd/ Not passed. Motion amended to sell at FIRST combined home game/2nd/Passed. Tanya and Brenda volunteered to sell. Wed. November 30 @ 4:45pm. Will revisit and evaluate at the meeting in December.
* Tacoma Dome. Dec 16th. (Volunteers in Oct minutes). Jan 13/14/15 Monster Trucks, Feb 11 Volunteer names not taken.

New Business:
* No craft fair in December. Motion/2nd and Passed.
    * Family assistance with cost of uniforms discussed. $50. Aaron to get more information. Cost is $23 per shirt.

Meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm.

Committee Report:
*Fund-raising: Silent Auction Items and starting bids: Tanning items ($25)/ Los Pinos (TBD), Around the Corner Cafe ($10), Quilt ($50), Scratch Tickets ($?), Hair Hype ($10), Nail certificate ($15), Man Basket ($?), Jazz band private event ($100), digital picture frame ($20). Trina and Roxy will set up.
*Advertising: Tanya has signs to wave, Andrew L, Melanie will pass fliers, Kristie will repost information on Facebook.
* Entertainment: Mr. Scannell will perform, Jazz band will 2 prformances, possible quartets. Will need transportation assistance from the OHS: Andrew L., Aaron will MC event.
* Kids: Cleaning and bringing cookies.
* Kitchen: Decision was made to purchase most food items through the supplier for Camp Arnold. Based on 300 people cost will be approximately $1.80 per head (this cost includes 3 sauces, noodles, salad and dressing, bread).
*Items we have: 250 snow cone cups, 100 sm. Napkins, 100 spoons, 50 boats (from Scott), 754 napkins, 293 forks, 8 spoons, 274 plates (from Todd).
*Need: Lemonade (Todd will pick up). Hand stamp (Todd and Brenda). Cooler (Trina and Melanie).

* Aaron announced to the Group the need for $375 to cover the cost of 13 -16 kistraveling to Spokane for a musical experience with Joshua Redman and the Whitmore Band. This will be an overnight trip. Motion/2nd/Passed in favor of Support. Some members were unsure, possible further discussion needed.

Announcements:
* We can get into the Eagles Hall @ Noon. Everyone needs to be there by 4pm. Pasta Feed will run from 5pm – 8pm.
* Volunteers reminded of their commitments.

Somebody Asked.

Dear OPABC supporters,

The question has be brought up, by more than one individual, questioning who it is that the Orting Performing Arts Booster Club (OPABC) really exists to support. Is it the band? The choir? Perhaps the dance team or maybe even the cheer team?  

To this question I want to state that the Orting Performing Arts Booster Club completely supports ALL student groups, performing arts related or otherwise, due to the fact that we completely support the STUDENTS of Orting.  We believe that EVERY student in Orting has the potential to be amazing and deserve EVERY drop of support that they can get from us as their parents and as a community. 

With that being said, does the OPABC support all of the many diverse groups in our District financially?  Of course not.

When the OPABC first began as a group of about 7 parents, we had joined together hoping that there would be other groups, ie. choir, dance, that would want to join with us in support of the Youth in our District.  Which was only part of the reason we chose to name our organization the ORTING PERFORMING ARTS BOOSTER CLUB and not just the "Band Boosters".  Over time when our attempts to court the Choir Director failed and the practices of a previous dance coach were questionable it became obvious that we would be going it alone as a Club.  Not to mention that the Dance team and Cheer groups have started their own booster clubs.  (If you attended meetings this would mostly be old info. for you.) 

A discussion was brought up a few years ago to change to only a "Band" Booster.  This idea also fell by the wayside as there was a "Band Booster" many years ago that failed for some dishonest reason and we felt it was better to not be in any way considered a part of that organization.

We as a Booster Club are still small in size, averaging only about 15 individuals at our monthly meetings, despite sending reminders to over 70 people each month.  Yet, while our numbers may be few our dreams for the children in our neighborhoods are not.  We completely support, physically, mentally, emotionally and financially, the OHS and OMS band groups and their fabulous conductor Mr. Ruff. 

It is the intend of the Orting Performing Arts Booster Club to continue to do all that we can to show our support for the great kids in our schools, irregardless of group affiliation, but most importantly to do what we can to financially aid the Bands in their pursuit of excellence. 

If you are not all ready doing so we would encourage you to get involved, either with the OPABC or one of the other great parent groups in Orting.  There is so much that we as parents can do to give not only our children but EVERY child in our schools the opportunity to be as amazing as they possibly can.

Tacoma Dome Dates.

Didn't YOUR kids sound GREAT?  I attended all of the concerts and was very impressed by all of the bands.  OPABC is so proud to have a small part in their growth as musicians.

At our last Booster meeting it was voted unanimously to continue our relationship with the PTTE and the Tacoma Dome fundraiser.  This is great news for the Booster Club and our Band kids!  This is a long term fundraiser that will help us give our kids the performing arts experience that they deserve.  Thanks to those who have all ready offered their assistance... We could not do this without you!

We have several upcoming concerts that we are looking for volunteers for.  We have been asked by the PTTE to provide a minimum of 6 individuals per event but we certainly can take more...so please feel free to let me know which concerts you would like to attend.  All you need is a food handlers permit and if possible an alcohol serving license (both of these can be obtained from taking an on-line class/test at these locations:  http://www.foodworkercard.wa.gov/ and http://www.liquorclass.com/

The dates of the concerts are as follows:
June 29(Wed) ... Brittney Spears... we need atleast one more volunteer
July 8(Fri) ...  New Kids and Back Street Boys ... we need atleast 2 more people
July 22(Fri) ... Kenny Chesney ... we have 6 signed up... anybody else want to come?
Aug 12 (Fri) ...  Motley Crue & Poison  ...  we have 7 volunteers.. 
Sept 7(Wed) ... Taylor Swift ... we could use one more...

* PTTE is offering us the opportunity to join with them at the Tacoma Dome. Approximately once per month, and we would need 6 - 8 OPABC members to attend. Alcohol license needed by most. Profits based on sales per event. 10% of food sales and 8% of alcohol sales and tips. No motion made at this time. More information wanted. First event offered May 28th.Other discussions:

Tonight's OPABC Booster Meeting is not going to be like our "usual" meetings.   We are holding a class for anyone interested in obtaining their alcohol serving license to help us with the fund-raiser at the Tacoma Dome.  Class starts at 6pm and costs $30.  Please bring your photo ID and you need to know your Social Security number.  We are meeting in the Band room at OMS.  Hope to see you there.

Band Retreat

Looking for help..

The Orting Performing Arts Booster Club is in need of a few people to help out on Saturday, April 9th.  We will have a table set up in town to sell our sweatshirts and other items, including our brand new mascot t-shirts.  We need some ONE person to assist from Noon to 3 and ONE person to help from 3:00pm until the parade is over (about 6pm).  This could be the same GREAT person.  Let us know as soon as possible if you can help.  (Don't just assume someone else will do it...)  Thanks to Tanya, Trina, Tudie and Brenda for volunteering to help us!

Also, we as a Booster club have been presented with the possibility of a great fundraiser that could potentially bring in thousands of dollars a year to support our kids.  All we need to do as a Booster Club is have several dedicated individuals willing to step up (the more the easier for all).  This fundraiser involves selling concessions at the Tacoma Dome during certain Friday/Saturday concerts throughout the year.  (Yes, this is the fundraiser that the Partnership School has been doing.) The real only requirement is that to participate we need every individual to obtain a food handlers permit (can be done on-line and costs about $15) and if possible a liquor license (this requires a class and costs about $35, if we had enough interested we can set up a class and do it as a group.)  This would be a GREAT way to raise money and help our kids.  Further details..dates, etc. .... will come later.. if we have enough interested.

Minutes for the meeting on February 7, 2011 were approved.

Officer’s Report:
Treasurer: Fox Hollow: donations $245.33

Committee Report: No Committees.

Old Business:
* Mascot t-shirts have arrived. Pep band has received them.
* Fox Hollow Community Day.
Upcoming Fundraisers:
* Pasta Feed. Eagles Hall reserved for April 30th. Volunteers needed. Sign-up sheet passed.
* Car wash scheduled for March 26. 10 - 2. Scott will get kit. Andrea will secure location.
                   * Eventually CD’s for sale. Technology assistance required.

New Business:
                 * Parade/Table. Beckie Meek will look into for us.

Other discussions:
                    * Band Retreat. $70 per person. Possible Scholarships?
* Selling at soccer Games? Motion/2nd/Passed. Beckie Meek and Aaron Ruff will work table. Tuesday and Thursdays.Announcements:

With that being said,,where was everybody else?  There is so much to do before our Pasta Feed and so few willing to step-up and help out.  PLEASE give a little of your time and help us support YOUR great kids!  We need help with everything from setting up to putting away and every minute in between.  Certainly, there must be an HOUR OR TWO of your time that you can give for such a great cause? Our Pasta Feed is on April 30th from 5 - 8pm at the Eagle's Hall in Orting.  Please contact us and let us know how you want to help out.

    Treasurer: Nothing to report. Approximately $160 raised since last meeting.

Committee Report: No Committees.
Old Business:
* Mascot T-shirts ordered.  Payment processed on 1/27/2011.  Takes 4 weeks to process.


Upcoming Fund raisers: 
* Pasta feed.  Eagles Hall? Volunteers need. 5 - 8pm
    * Frozen goods. Feb. 17 - March 4. Todd Cook and Trina Hamlet volunteered to help.

New Business:
    * Route 66. Andrew Lundeen talked to them.  Aaron Ruff asked to follow-up.
        * Community Day. February 26, 2011. Jazz band will perform. Table to sell should be available.

Other discussions:
    * Drum-line t-shirts.  Booster writes check but will not use funds. Moved/Seconded/Passed.
    * Possible Jazz festival opportunity.  More information requested from Aaron Ruff.

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is...

Saturday, February 26th Orting's own Fox Hollow Coffee Co. will be hosting a community day to benefit the OHS and OMS Band Programs. A percentage of the day's profits will go towards the purchase of new instruments, music, instrument repair, and educational opportunities for the student musicians of Orting. The OHS Jazz Band will be playing at 1pm and again at 5:30pmand a wind quartet from OHS will be performing at 3:30pm. Guests will have the opportunity to support the music programs of Orting Schools in a few other ways as well. The Orting Performing Arts Booster Club will be there selling merchandise only available from OPABC and while they last, free samples of easily baked frozen pastries that the members of the OHS Band are selling will be available. These pastries can be ordered from any band member available or from the Director, Mr. Ruff. Please come out and support our students.

* Need Items to sell.
* Motion to purchase 25 long sleeve t-shirts. Seconded and Passed.
* Second motion to purchase Sweatshirts (8 non-hooded{2m, L, XL} - 12 hooded{5M, 5L, 3XL, 4XXL})
Upcoming Fundraisers:
* Pasta Feed. Motion for changing date to April 30, 2011. Seconded and Passed. 5-8pm.
New Business:
                   * Updated contact information through Facebook, Website and email address.
                   * Cancelled order from Old Business. Motioned to purchase 120 Mascot t-shirts.

* Discussed purchasing t-shirts - Mascot - for the Band. (See New Business.)
* Students are being asked to pay $5 towards cost of shirts. Boosters are picking up the remaining balance. Extra shirts will be sold at the Daffodil Parade and so on.

Minutes for the meeting on Oct. 11, 2010, were approved. .
Officer’s Report:
       Treasurer: $85 earned previous Friday.
Committee Report: None.
Old Business:
       * T-shirts were discussed. Decision made to hold off on placing order at this time.
Upcoming Fundraisers:
       * Scott will check Jan. 22 or 29th at Eagles Hall.
       * Silent Auction items?
       * Food will be discussed at the meeting in December.
       *Moved to change the date of the Fundraiser to 12th or 16th of March. Seconded and Passed.
New Business:
       * Presentation by the Dance Club. Instructor provided us with a packet containing information.
       * Decision made to delay definite answer until after 501c3 is completed.
       * Middle School needs? We were presented with a "list" of items.

       * Tri-fold display was being put together.
       *Further discussion on Band Retreat. Director Aaron Ruff still working out details.
       *Music ideas for Spaghetti Feed in March?
